Given that the remuneration of top officials at parastatals is internationally benchmarked, then it is safe to assume that the standard of service delivery should also be of an international standard. Clearly, this is not the case. Mr Maroga earns four times as much as President Zuma, and yet Eskom is failing dismally in meeting its mandate to provide cheap and reliable electricity to South Africa.
Various internal Eskom documents have shown that Maroga has been thoroughly warned about the problems in the parastatal which he ignored and which ultimately led to the load shedding in 2007 and 2008.
