(Translation of Afrikaans paragraph follows.)
[Dr C P MULDER: Mr Speaker, this matter is of such a serious nature that I am not going to respond to inappropriate statements like that one. The hon member should put on her earphones in order for her to get a better understanding of what I had said. I am requesting that we make the necessary amendments to ensure that the legislation is doing that, should that be your aim as you are saying, or, if you are not willing to make those amendments, then allow your members to vote freely. The FF Plus, as I have mentioned before, will be voting against this Bill.]
Mr Speaker, section 80 of the Constitution reads as follows - and I want to read it to you:
1) Members of the National Assembly may apply to the Constitutional Court for an order declaring that all or part of an Act of Parliament is unconstitutional.
2) An application -
(a) must be supported by at least one third of the members ...
Sir, the FF Plus now calls on all members of opposition parties in the House to sign such a petition. I thank you. [Applause.]
