Mr D Joseph (DA-WC) to ask the Minister of Trade and Industry:
1) Whether his department will ensure that persons who have been
blacklisted will have their names removed from the list after they have
paid their debt; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details;
2) what steps will his department take to ensure that consumers in the
rural areas receive the information relating to (a) credit options, (b)
protection options and (c) counselling options;
3) what steps will his department take to ensure that consumers in the

protection options and (c) counselling options;
Response:
1) thedti has finalized the research on credit amnesty. The report proposes
automatic removalof adverse listings upon payment from credit records of
consumers on an on-going basis. This proposal is supported by the dti
and will be processed to Cabinet.
2) The National Credit Regulator is an agency of the dti that is entrusted
with the task of enforcing the National Credit Act and raising awareness.
In addition to the mandate of the NCR, the dti has partnership with
CONTRALESA through which awareness programmes are implemented.
thedti has also recruited forty community development field workers who
will be deployed in rural and peri-urban to educate the public and
provide services.
3) This will be determined by the circumstances asthe dticontinue to review
the implementation of the Legislation.
