MR M J R DE VILLIERS (DA-WC) TO ASK THE MINISTER OF SPORT AND RECREATION SA
(1) Whether his departmentâs sub-programme of education and training for
2011-12 financial year has set any target to train 500 learners with
disabilities; if so,
(a) why were the targets for this time frame not being met and
(b) which service providers did not deliver the necessary
information and criteria that was needed;
(2) whether learners were
(a) identified and
(b) informed that they were to be included in the training; if not,
why not; if so,
(i) when will this problem be addressed and
(ii) who will drive the process?

(1) Yes. The Department had planned to train 500 learners with
disabilities in 2011 / 2012 financial year.
(a) Training was not completed due to the unavailability of
appropriately qualified service providers.
(b) No Service Providers were contracted for the training that was
not conducted.
(2) (a) No. Learners were not identified.
(b) No. No learners had been informed.
(i) The Department is currently collaborating with CATHSSETA
to ensure that training is provided by appropriately qualified
training providers in line with National priorities as outlined
in the National Sport and Recreation Plan.
(ii) Sport and Recreation SA, Provincial Departments of Sport
and Recreation, CATHSSETA, SASCOC and National Federations and
other partners such as the Department of Basic Education.
