Mr H B Groenewald (DA-NW) to ask the Minister of Communications:
Whether her department is assisting community radio stations; if not,
why not; if so, (a) through which programmes and (b) what are the
further relevant details? CW17E
Yes, the Department provides assistance to community radio stations.
The assistance is being provided through a community broadcasting
support programme which has been running since 1998. The support
programme covers four areas comprising of broadcast infrastructure,
capacity-building, content production and signal distribution
subsidies has more than 80 beneficiaries scattered throughout the
countryâs 9 provinces. The support programme is currently under
review with the purpose to assess the impact of the support, areas
that require improvement and ways to accommodate community television.
