QUESTION FOR WRITTEN REPLY
8. Mr R A Lees (DA-KZN) to ask the Minister of Trade and Industry:
(1) With reference to the 246 co-operatives that were provided with
funding of R34 million as reported to the Select Committee on
Trade and International Relations on 13 October 2010, (a) what
are the names of (i) the co-operatives and (ii) members of each
co-operative, (b) what is the business of each co-operative, (c)
where is each co-operative located, (d) how much of the R34
million did each co-operative receive, (e) what are the details
of each (i) purchase and/or (ii) service, including the names of
suppliers that this money was used for, (f) what was the value
of outputs produced by each co-operative during the year under
review and (g) which of the co-operatives continued to be
productive as at 30 September 2010;
(2) whether any further funding will be provided to these co-
operatives in the future; if not, why not; if so, what are the
relevant details?CW08E

Question 1
a) The following information is contained in the attached spreadsheet:
i) Names of cooperatives
ii) Members of every cooperative
b) Business/activity of each cooperative
c) Location of every cooperative
d) Incentive paid to each cooperative
e) (i)Machinery and equipment as well raw material were
purchased for the cooperatives. (Not contained in the spread sheet
spreadsheet)
(ii)Names of suppliers (Null represent unavailability of data
due to migration to temporary system)
f) The cooperatives funded during the year are all start ups and
therefore the value of output is not available. (Not contained in
the spreadsheet)
g) From the sample of 135 monitored cooperatives, 62 are productive.

Question 2
The CIS grant has been increased from R300 000 to R350 000 and
Cooperatives that received incentives previously access additional
funding provided:
(a). The accumulative grant per cooperative does not exceed
R350 000.
(b). Detailed documentary evidence that the grant previously
approved
has been used effectively for the purpose for which it
has been
intended.
