REPLY:
1) Yes, the Department placed an advertisement through the internal
communication systems and externally in the national weekend
newspapers during January 2010 inviting applications from interested
former members of the South African Police Service to apply for re-
enlistment. The requirements that applicants had to comply with were
outlined in the advert with the understanding that only those
applicants that met the predetermined criteria will be considered for
further processing.
(2) The Department received three thousand nine hundred and ninety nine
(3999) applications from former members of the Service following the
January 2010 advertisement that are being processed by the respective
Provinces and Divisions. One thousand one hundred and seven (1107) of
these applications were rejected after the initial screening process
because the applicants did not meet the requirements that were
stipulated in the advert. The remaining applications are being
processed to enable a decision by the National Commissioner.
