QUESTION FOR WRITTEN REPLY
89. Mrs E C van Lingen (DA-EC) to ask the Minister of Energy:
(1) What is the current situation with the electrification in the
(a) Mahlatsi and (b) Mafarafara communities in the Greater
Tubatse Municipality;
(2) Whether there are any plans to extend and/or upgrade the current
electrification network of this area; if not, why not; if so,
what are the relevant details?
Reply
Greater Tubatse has 144 Villages electrified and 56 un-
electrified. The total backlog of the municipality is 22890
connections.
(1)(a) Mahlatsi: out of 600 households 277 households will be
connected in the 2010/11 and the remaining 323 households will
be done in 2011/12.
(b) Mafarafara: 937 connections are planned for 2011/12 financial
year.
(2) All these projects will be supplied from Ohrigstad substation
which has a limited capacity but will accommodate the planned
connections. However the following infrastructure projects are
planned for the universal access for Greater Tubatse
Municipality in the Eskom programme:

⢠Steelpoort substation
⢠Ohrigstad substation upgrade
⢠Middelpunt substation
