REPLY:
(1)(a) The following eight (8) new police stations were completed
since 1994 in the Mpumalanga province:

- Ekangala (1999/2000) Re-established

b) Since 1January 2009 no additions to existing police stations were
completed.
c) The following four (4) buildings and / or additions are currently in
progress:
- Pienaar (Re-established)

- Mbuzini (Re-established)
- Tweefontein (Kwa-Mhlanga) (Re-established)
Definitions:
New Police Stations:
Police stations that are constructed in suburbs / townships / towns /
cities where no police station existed before.
Re-established police stations:
Existing police stations that are replaced by new structures, either
on its existing site or a new site.
(2)(a) New buildings planned to be constructed for 2009/2010 financial
year:
New buildings : 12 (twelve)
Re-established buildings : 40 (forty)
The abovementioned projects are all in execution (construction). They
are however in various stages of completion, as capital works projects
run over a number of financial years, in terms of planning and
construction. The construction period of a police station or any other
building is usually between 16 to 24 months. The construction period
for larger developments could be well in excess of even 36 months.
This results in projects being in various stages of completion during
any given financial year, namely either having started with
construction in that financial year, or being in the midst of
construction, or being completed in that financial year.
(b) New buildings planned to be constructed for 2010/2011 financial
year:
Various projects are being planned by the SAPS to be constructed for
the 2010/2011 financial year, but no figures can be given, as the
final budget allocation to the various projects for the next financial
year will only take place in October 2009.
