2539. Mr T E Mulaudzi (EFF) to ask the Minister of Police:
Whether the death of a certain person (name and details furnished) is being
investigated as a murder case; if not, why not; if so, (a) who is the
investigating officer, (b) did the SA Police Service obtain and view the
video footage that is available, (c) how many investigating officers have
investigated this case, (d) have any suspects been identified, (e) how many
hours did it take the police to arrive at the crime scene after the
incident was reported, (f) did the police check for fingerprints at the
crime scene, (g) which police station is now holding this docket, (h) what
is the current status of the case, (i) was the mother of the deceased
notified of any developments in the investigation, (j) when will the docket
be reopened if it is closed and (k) did the Crime Intelligence Unit play
any role in this investigation?

REPLY:
Yes, the death of the certain person is under investigation in the case
docket, Mondeor CAS 236/01/2009 (1. Murder, 2. House Robbery)
a) The investigating officer is Sergeant D Nortje, stationed at the
Provincial Investigation Unit, Provincial Office, Gauteng.
b) Yes, the SAPS did obtain and view the CCTV footage which had been
filmed in the house of the deceased during the incident.
c) The case docket has been and is still being investigated by one
investigating officer.
d) Yes, a possible suspect has been identified on the CCTV-footage. The
suspect is however still unknown as his identity has not been
established yet.
e) Members of Visible Policing in Mondeor arrived at the scene within 7
minutes after the incident had been reported to SAPS and the
investigating officer within 40 minutes after he was summoned to the
scene.
f) Yes, the crime scene was examined for fingerprints and DNA and possible
fingerprints were found on the scene.
g) The case docket is under investigation at the Provincial Investigation
Unit, Gauteng under the direct supervision of the Provincial Head of
the Detective Service.
h) The case docket is still under investigation. Attempts are being made
to identify and trace the possible suspects. All other investigation
has been concluded.
i) Yes, the mother of the deceased has been and is still being provided
with regular feedback on progress with the investigation by the
investigating officer.
j) The case docket was never closed and is still being investigated.
k) No, the Crime Intelligence members has not thus far played any role in
the investigation.
