Chairperson, I move without notice:
That the Council -
1) notes the blacklisting and censorship of Sowetan's Cape political correspondent and journalist Anna Majavu by the Democratic Alliance because she worked as a spokesman for the SA Municipal Workers' Union, SAMWU;
2) acknowledges that such a move is a blatantly disregard of one of the fundamental civil liberties of our democracy that the ANC and the people of South Africa fought for with their blood and sweat, and it is nothing but blatant hypocrisy and double standards that the DA continues to preach without practice; and
3) takes this opportunity to condemn such insincerity from a party that claims to be champions of an open society and calls on all journalists and the media fraternity to condemn this provocative apartheid practice of the DA.
In the light of the objection, the motion may not be proceeded with. The motion without notice will now become a notice of motion.
Hon members, the time for motions has expired, but I see there are still four hands. I will use my prerogative to extend the time by two minutes. If you are too long, remember that you will be denying other people the chance to move their motion.
