[Mr T M H MOFOKENG: Chairperson, I move without notice:
That the Council -
1) notes that a 47-year-old man was arrested by police on Tuesday, 15 February 2011, in a village near East London for killing his two wives;
2) further notes that the man stabbed and violently assaulted his two wives to death with a knobkerrie in his rondavel;
3) takes this opportunity to condemn in the harshest possible terms such violent and cowardly acts and the worrying sudden surge in the number of brutal domestic violence cases in some rural areas in South Africa; and
4) calls on the security and Justice departments to strengthen the protection of women and children in the rural areas who are increasingly subjected to the harshest forms of violence and abuse by people who have no regard for the laws of our land.]
