Chairperson, I hereby move without notice:
That the Council -
1) notes that yesterday KwaZulu-Natal social development MEC, Meshack Radebe, visited 15-year-old twin brothers Thembinkosi and Bhenkinkosi Nduli, who had been living in a scrapped car for more than a year;
2) further notes that MEC Radebe ended the boys' plight, which came to light on SABC's programme Touching Lives at the weekend, by moving them to a safe house, while prominent businessmen Sydney Pandaram and Eric Sewja built a five-bedroomed house for them; and
3) takes this opportunity to congratulate SABC for their innovative programme, which has assisted hundreds of destitute families and individuals across South Africa and MEC Radebe and the two businesspeople for rising to the call of national duty to assist the two boys and for their undertaking to provide further assistance to ensure that they continue with their education in order to break the cycle of generational poverty facing many of our people whose lives were made unbearable and disadvantaged by the long years of apartheid segregation and discrimination in our country.
Motion agreed to in accordance with section 65 of the Constitution.
