    Chair, I hereby move without notice:

    That the Council -

    1) notes that the National Weather Service has issued a "red alert" warning for eight of the country's nine provinces as a massive weather system sweeps across the country, causing heavy rains, flooding and snowfalls in the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal;

    2) further notes that poor households living in informal settlements, especially children and pensioners, are largely the victims of the heavy rain season that results in unbearable chilly living conditions; and

    3) takes this opportunity to appeal to the people of South Africa, especially the business community and other organised business entities such as Business South Africa, the Chamber of Commerce and business individuals, to assist households with blankets and heaters and adopt households and support them during this winter.

    Motion agreed to in accordance with section 65 of the Constitution.
