    Chairperson, I hereby move without notice: That the Council -

    1) notes that a recent report by the SA Human Rights Commission and the United Nations Children's Fund has asserted that unemployment is a huge obstacle to children's wellbeing in South Africa;

    2) also notes that the report claims that although the number of hungry children halved to 15% between 2002 and 2007, a large number of children in South Africa live in households with no employed household members;

    3) further notes that the report has acknowledged that the School Nutrition Programmes, which reach 6 out of 10 children through the schooling system, has been one of the major interventions to fight off child poverty; and

    4) takes this opportunity to reiterate its support for the call made by President Jacob Zuma to declare 2011 the year of job creation and appeals to all entities of national, provincial and local government, as well as the business community, to join the fight to create jobs and fight poverty in our communities.

    Motion agreed to in accordance with section 65 of the Constitution.
