Deputy Chairperson, I hereby move without notice:
That the Council -
1) notes that the Grant Thornton International Business Report has recently revealed that South African businesswomen currently hold 27% of senior management positions, beating the global average of 20%;
2) further notes that the survey also revealed that the percentage of privately held businesses in South Africa which have no women in senior management positions at all, has declined from 27% in 2009 to 23% currently, which is in sharp contrast to the global average which has risen from 35% in 2009 to 38%;
3) acknowledges that the fact that South Africa outperforms the global average is attributed to the emphasis placed by the ANC and the ANC- led government on gender equality and employment equity; and
4) takes this opportunity to reiterate that, unlike the all-male Western Cape cabinet of Premier Zille of the DA, the ANC and the South African government under the control of the ANC hold an impressive record with many women in decision-making positions, including executive, parliamentary and senior positions in government.
Is there any objection to the motion?
