The Public Protector is a constitutionally established, independent body, who is appointed by the President, in terms of Section 181 of the Constitution, 1996. Section 182(1)(a) of the Constitution mandates the Public Protector to investigate any conduct in state affairs, or in the public administration in any sphere of government, that is alleged or suspected to be improper or result in any impropriety or prejudice. There are twenty walk-in offices of the Public Protector across the country.
