Chairperson, I move without notice:
That the Council -
1) notes that the African National Congress has released its draft policy proposals in preparation for its national policy conference in June and its national conference in December to be held in this historic centenary year of the movement;
2) further notes that these policy changes and proposals will lay the basis for an accelerated transformation of South African society over the next 30 to 50 years as the ANC remains the leader of our society;
3) acknowledges that these changes as proposed range from social, economic, gender, land reform, youth development, peace and stability and the transformation of the state and will give impetus to the struggle for a better life for all our people;
4) further acknowledges that the policy proposals make the point that we have now concluded the first phase of transition that dealt with the political democratisation of our society and that we must move towards the second stage of transition to deal with socioeconomic transformation; and
5) takes this opportunity to welcome the release of these proposals and calls on all progressive forces and our people to contribute towards the finalisation of these policies to give effect to the building of a nonracial, nonsexist, prosperous and democratic South Africa.
Motion agreed to in accordance with section 65 of the Constitution.
