Failure Of Police To Investigate Death Of Two Teenage Boys (Draft Resolution)

  • Mr T A Mashamaite 7 Mar 2012 hansard

    Chairperson, I move without notice:

    That the Council -

    1) notes with shock and dismay the failure and ignorance of the police to investigate the death of two teenage boys who recently died under mysterious circumstances in the small village of Ha-Mashau Bodwe in Limpopo;

    2) further notes that while the families of the two boys are still anxiously awaiting an official report from the police, the one boy, Masimbane Tshifhiwa, aged 13, allegedly committed suicide four months ago and was found hanging from a tree, while the 19-year- old, mentally disturbed Mufamadi Ntanganedzeni is believed to have drowned in a river recently;

    3) acknowledges, however, that post-mortem results later showed that the 19-year-old boy who allegedly drowned had a fractured neck, cracked skull, internal bleeding and a broken jaw; and

    4) condemns in the strongest possible terms the failure and ignorance of the police and calls on the Minister of Police and the Commissioner of Police to investigate the deaths of both these boys properly, as well as the failure and ignorance of the police to do so, and to pursue the matters to their logical conclusion.

    Motion agreed to in accordance with section 65 of the Constitution.
