Deputy Speaker, I move without notice:
That the House -
1) notes that Paralympic sprinter, Oscar Pistorius, has been included amongst TIME magazine's 100 most influential people in the world for 2012;
2) further notes that on the TIME website, sports columnist Sean Gregory notes that the double amputee, a four-time Paralympics champion, has shown great character to compete against able-bodied athletes, saying, "Even when the running establishment, convinced that his blades provided an advantage, tried to confine Pistorius to the Paralympics, he kept pushing his limits and the limits of the human body", and continuing, "now he's won the right to compete against the world's best. He is the definition of global inspiration";
3) acknowledges that in May 2008 the Court of Arbitration for Sport cleared him to compete in able-bodied championships and that last month Pistorius dipped under the Olympic qualifying standard in the men's 400m sprint after he clocked 45,20 seconds; and
4) applauds Oscar Pistorius for his dedication, excellence, achievement and sportsmanship and cheers him on to qualify for the London Olympic Games.
Agreed to.
