Hon Deputy Speaker, I move without notice:
That the House -
1) notes, with great enthusiasm, the launch of the 2012 Nelson Mandela International Day at the Hector Peterson Museum in Soweto on Wednesday, 23 May 2012;
2) further notes that Mandela Day is the birthday of former President Nelson Mandela, who was born on July 18, 1918, and that the day will also mark Madiba's 94th birthday;
3) recalls that Mandela Day is a day when South Africans and people all over the world are encouraged to dedicate at least 67 minutes of their time to community work for the entire month of July in celebration of the values and principles that Mandela fought and stood for;
4) believes that the launch of Nelson Mandela Day at the Hector Peterson Museum will inspire more people, especially young people, to actively participate in the campaign whole-heartedly to ensure that this day is more sustainable and that we make every day a Mandela Day; and 5) calls on all South Africans, young people in particular, to be active citizens by participating in the campaign in order to inspire change in their communities by doing good deeds and bring about better communities.
Agreed to.
