Deputy Speaker, I move without notice:
That the House -
1) notes that Ann Skelton, Director of the Centre for Child Law at the University of Pretoria, received the World Children's Honorary Award in recognition of her selfless 25-year battle for the rights of children affected by the justice system;
2) further notes Ann's groundbreaking work for South Africa's children by fighting their cause in and outside of the courtrooms;
3) recognises that when former president, Nelson Mandela, took office, Ann chaired the committee that was tasked with writing legislation to uphold the rights of children having trouble with the law;
4) further recognises that she has assisted children in various scenarios, including representing a child in a divorce case, a child mistreated at a children's home and an unaccompanied refugee child; and
5) congratulates Ann on her achievement and wishes her all the best in her future endeavours.
Agreed to.
