Speaker, I move without notice:
That the House -
1) notes that June is declared Youth Month in South Africa, commemorating the 16 June 1976 uprisings led by young students from Soweto;
2) further notes that June marks an important period in our democracy as it reminds people of the immense contribution made by the country's young people in the struggle for freedom, justice and equality;
3) acknowledges that in this month programmes aimed at commemorating the anniversary of the Soweto and related uprisings will take place all over the country;
4) further acknowledges that the theme for this year is Working together for Youth development and a drug free South Africa; and
5) calls upon various sectors of society to work closely towards a common purpose of changing the lives of young people for the better.
Agreed to.
