Mr Speaker, not a day passes without some sort of devastating impact of criminal activity. There are hundreds of crimes committed daily which do not enter the newspaper space. The effects of the current spate of criminal activities are going to have far-reaching consequences, undoubtedly. It would affect our economic activity, investor confidence and job creation in our country. The consequences would be too ghastly to contemplate. Violence against women, rape, economic crimes, drugs and alcohol abuse are damaging the fabric of society and the youth.
I am sad to say that senior citizens are being robbed and murdered. All forms of brutality must be dealt with by the strong arm of the law. All sectors of society are hit by crime and the question of personal safety and security of people at work. Homes, businesses, weddings, entertainment centres, funerals, and places of worship are all targeted by criminals, and are no longer sacrosanct. The MF calls for a massive intensified campaign by all sectors to fight crime. I thank you.
