Hon Chair, the upbringing and the development of our children and learners specifically is crucial. The AIC believes in the development of a person as a whole - that is, mentally, physically and spiritually. We believe that the role of sport in the development of an individual is very important, especially in our schools. However, this is not given the serious attention we think it deserves.

Sport in our schools need to be promoted and all schools should be encouraged to take part in all codes. It must not be optional but compulsory for the schools to do so. We believe that the intervention by the Department of Sport and Recreation working closer with the Department of Education can make this possible.

Furthermore, a lot still needs to be done to improve the conditions of our sport facilities in rural areas. Our villages always seem to receive the last consideration in every aspect. This includes the need to improve the sports facilities of the schools in rural areas. A lot of talent in sport is found in these deserted areas. I thank you.
