REPLY:
According to the Limpopo Department of Health â
1) (a) The service provider responsible for the maintenance of
medical equipment at â
i) Letaba Hospital is Folang Medical Supplies cc; and
ii) In each public health centre in Limpopo:
⢠Folang Medical Supplies cc in Mopani, Vhembe and
Capricorn Districts;
⢠Shikenah Medical Supply and Manufacturers cc in Joint
Venture with Syncromed Technology cc in Sekhukhune
District.
⢠Stat Tiakeni Medical (Pty) Ltd in Waterberg District.
(b) There is no set time-frames for the repairing and/or replacement
of medical equipment in (aa) casualty wards, (bb) maternity
wards and (cc) ICUs as the equipments are repaired as and when
they are broken, and replaced as and when they are obsolete.
(c) (i) The terms of the service agreements with regard to how
often medical equipment must be serviced is six months; and
(ii) There are not stipulated penalties regarding the penalties
for non-compliance
2) Yes, the Department does monitor the quality of services provided by
the contractors. As per provision of clause 12.2 of the Service Level
Agreements (SLAs), officers that use the equipment are required to
test the equipment once maintenance, service or repair has been done
by the contractors.
In the case of some health facilities, clinical engineers monitor the
quality of services provided by contractors. It is the Departmentâs
intention to have additional clinical engineers appointed to help
monitor the quality of services provided by the contractors in all the
health facilities.
END.
