With reference to his reply to question 262 on 25 July 2011, (a) when will
the Mangaung 10111 Emergency Service Centre in Heidedal be (i) occupied and
(ii) fully operational and (b) what are the reasons for the delay in the
(i) occupation and (ii) usage of the centre?
CW10E
REPLY:
(a)(i) The Mangaung 10111 Emergency Service Centre in Heidedal was
occupied during the following periods as per unit:
September 2011 - Flying Squad
September 2011 - Diving Unit
August 2011 - Provincial Police Emergency Service (PES)
August 2011 - Provincial Command Centre
September 2011 - The Firearm, Liquor and Second-hand Goods
(FLASH)
November 2011 - Tactical Response Team (TRT)
February 2012 - Provincial Social Crime Prevention
(ii) The Emergency Service Centre is already fully operational except for
the Call Centre and the K9 (Dog) Unit.
(b)(i) The delay with regard to the full functioning of the Call
Centre was due to a problem with the operating of the Voice Loggers,
and the K9 Unit could not be accommodated on the site as the site is
located in a residential area and it is too small to accommodate the
dog kennels and an exercise camp for the dogs.
(ii) The Emergency Service Centre is therefore being utilized for its
intended purpose.
