Reply:
According to South African Airways (SAA):
Flights
(1)(a)(i)(aa-bb) SAA reduced the following international passenger flights
from Johannesburg: Sao Paulo from 22 weekly flights to 20 flights. Flights
were reduced in order to introduce new flights. There are 6 additional/new
weekly flights from Johannesburg to Beijing that replaced the reduced
flights to Sao Paulo. The Johannesburg â Gaborone international passenger
flight was terminated because the market was too small for SAA.
(1)(b)(i)(aa-bb) SAA did not reduce or terminate domestic passenger flights
during the 2011-12 financial year.
(2)(a)(i-ii) Reasons have been given above in (1)(a).
(2)(b)(i) The following additional/new flights replaced the terminated
international flights:
⢠Launched Johannesburg â Ndola 6 weekly flights
⢠Launched Johannesburg â Kigali-Bujumbura 6 weekly flights
⢠Launched Johannesburg â Pointe-Noire (Congo) 4 weekly flights
Cargo Flights:
(2)(b)(ii) There have been no reductions or terminations on SAAs Cargo
International & Domestic Services. SAA has, however, increased its cargo
services on some of its regional routes (International) by adding one
additional flight per week to Dar Es Salaam, Entebbe, Maputo, Harare and
Luanda.
According to South African Express (SAX):
Flights
(1)(a)(ii)(b)(aa-bb) International passenger flights - SAX did not reduce
or terminate international passenger flights during the 2011-12 financial
year.
(1)(b)(ii)(aa-bb) Domestic passenger flight â During the 2011/12 financial
year, SA Express cancelled some of its operations from Johannesburg â
Nelspruit. This was as a result of the losses incurred. SA Express operated
2 flights per day on a Saturday and Sunday.
(2)(a)(i-ii) Reasons have been given above in (1)(b).
(2)(b)(i) SA Express added two new routes from Cape Town â Hoedspruit, Cape
Town â Kimberley with 6 flights per week.
(2)(b)(ii) SAX is not in cargo business.
