Ms P T Damme (DA) to ask the Minister of Telecommunications and Postal
Services:
Will any South Africans serve on the group of experts from BRICS Member
States to be established to co-operate and co-ordinate activities on
combating cybercrimes; if so, (a) who are these persons and (b) what is
their (i) expertise in this field and (ii) role in this BRICS group?

REPLY:
I have been advised by the Department as follows:-
Yes.
a) Officials from various Government departments such as the Department
of Telecommunications and Postal Services, State Security Agency,
South African Police Service, Department of Defence and Department of
International Relations and Cooperation.
(b)(i) The expertise of persons delegated to represent South Africa at
the BRICS Cyber Security Expert Group is varied as per their
departmental mandates ranging from combating cybercrime, policy and
regulatory formulation, as well as intelligence and diplomacy.
(b)(ii) Their role is to represent the interests of South Africa
encompassing the entire Cyber Security value chain including the
provision of formal input during interactions at the Experts Working
Group on Cyber Security.
