SOHCO was a section 21 company. At the time of the visit it was busy constructing 450 units of phase 1 in Steenberg. In the second phase, it was going to construct 2 150 units. The company had a maintenance team on site, which included a caretaker. The company had installed solar geysers in each unit. Local labour was used during the construction process, which included women. The project was registered with the National Home Builders Registration Council (NHBRC). The delegation was informed that the social housing process went through a test on construction management of buildings, SOHCO, Communicare Property Development and Cape Town Community Housing Company.
