One of the reasons for the relatively low detection and conviction rates may be because the station only has 15 informers on its books. The Branch Commander noted that they were not satisfied with this but that the situation has improved from 2009 when they only had six informers. They are trying with the help of the Community Police Forum to improve the situation. The total budget for informers is R20 thousand for the current financial year. The Branch Commander noted that no dockets had been lost in the past three years and that the detectives have a court register, a safe, locks on their office doors, a docket register and other measures in place to ensure the security of dockets. He said that there was a shortage of lock-up filing cabinets and that a total of 20 were ordered in December 2010 but still have not been received.
