Of these 44 detectives, 14 have completed the Introductory Course to Investigation and 37 have completed longer detective training courses. A total of seven of the 44 detective have not completed any detective training at all. If the number of training opportunities is taken to be approximately four per year (based on the 2010 training opportunities for detectives), it would take about two years to ensure that all detectives at the station are trained. Quite a few detectives have also undergone specialised detective training ranging from Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) (13), Fraud (5), Stock Theft (2), Harmful Religious Practices (1) and Serious and Violent Crime (2) training courses. The Branch Commander stated that there were sufficient offices and facilities for use by the detectives. In fact, this is one of the few police stations that have a one-way mirror for secure identification of suspects. One of the serious problems noted on this visit was the fact that this facility, despite the fact that it serves as a secure identification facility for a range of other stations in the area, was used by the cleaners as a storeroom. Cleaning equipment and clothes were strewn all over the extremely dirty room, and papers and rubbish were lying on the floors. The adjoining visitor's rooms were similar unkempt. The light was not working in the one room which was completely dark, even during the day, and another room was being used as a filing room by one of the managers.
