The detectives do not have sufficient office space and use their offices to interview witnesses. The station has a one-way mirror but this is not functional as the intercom system is not working. The detectives thus use the one-way mirror at Lyttelton police station. The offices are not secure as many of the detectives have keys for each other's offices as they have moved offices regularly. There is a shortage of filing cabinets and 100 were requested in October 2010. These have not been delivered. There are 42 vehicles for use by detectives and five of these were in the Government Garage. The ratio of detectives to vehicles is about 3:1. The Provincial Office has promised that they will receive 18 vehicles in the next two allocations.
