Concerns that lawyers/defence attorneys are given preference over the police at the courts as police are often not given sufficient time to build their cases. Cells: The station has three floors of cells with a total of 36 cells in all. Each of the cells is meant to have a capacity of two persons but on the day of the visit four people were being held in each of the cells that were occupied. Of these 36 cells, according to the SAPS only 18 are in working order, but in fact on inspection it was clear that in fact none of them were in working order. This was because renovations were being done on all three floors to the shower facilities at the same time, and on the day of the visit none of the showers were in working order. The shower facilities were in separate rooms on each floor and rubble and other debris from the renovations made use of these showers impossible.
