The Committee was told that there were a total of 151 firearms in the first firearm safe- the one containing deactivation and other firearms. However, when the firearms were counted, only 116 firearms could be accounted for. It was a serious concern to the Committee that the staff did not know how many firearms were actually in the safe at any one time. Of even more concern, was the fact that about five firearms without any labels, numbers or bags were lying in the deactivation store in a pile. The staff had no idea what these firearms were or where they had come from. One of them was a SAPS firearm.
