Hon members, earlier the hon Deputy Minister of Sport and Recreation contended in a point of order that the hon member MacKenzie was undermining the law and encouraging others to undermine the law. I suspect that the hon Deputy Minister raised his point of order with reference to Rule 65, which prohibits members from reflecting on statutes of the same session.
That particular Rule does not apply in this case. Furthermore, expressing criticism of a law does not necessarily constitute casting aspersions on the proceedings of the House, or undermining that particular law.
Hon MacKenzie acted within the confines of the Rules of the House and the hon Deputy Minister's point of order is, therefore, not upheld. Indeed, there would otherwise be no debate, and in that case we as members would have much less to do.
