Infographic: SA - Education Infrastructure Spending

On Tuesday, 2 June 2015, the National Treasury and Department of Basic Education briefed a joint meeting of the Standing Committee on Appropriations and the Basic Education Portfolio Committee about education infrastructure spending as well as spending on the Education Infrastructure Grant (EIG). Three provinces had under-spent on their infrastructure budgets and only 5 000 of the 12 299 education infrastructure projects in the pipeline were completed, prompting concern from the MPs about slow infrastructure spending by certain provinces and the low project completion rate. The Department and National Treasury told the Committee that the main challenge facing provinces in terms of infrastructure spending was delays in projects and poor project performances.
