The State of the Province Address is an annual event delivered by the Premier or provincial head, which marks the official opening of the Provincial Legislature. The speech is delivered in front of members of the provincial executive, including the Speaker, Deputy Speaker, and the Secretary.
SOPA follows the President’s state of the Nation Address, where Premier’s highlight their achievements during their tenure and use this opportunity to communicate their plans and priorities for the forthcoming year. While the State of Provincial Address is not as grand as the official opening of Parliament, there is still a ceremony held to mark the occasion. Following SOPA, there will be a debate on the speech and the Premier’s reply to the debate.
