Mrs J D Kilian (COPE) to ask the Minister of Communications:
(1)Â Â Whether, pursuant to the release of the report by the Public Protector
on irregularities by senior executives at the SA Broadcasting Corporation
(SABC), he will advise the SABC Board to take immediate steps to
institute disciplinary and legal action against the Acting Chief
Operating Officer (COO) for the misrepresentation of his qualifications
to the SABC; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details;
(2)Â Whether he will advise the SABC Board to take immediate steps to
recover monies paid in irregular expenditure on salary increases to staff
who were improperly appointed and promoted from the Acting COO;
(3)Â Whether he will advise the SABC Board to take immediate steps to review
all their human resources processes pertaining to the creation of new
posts, appointments and salary scales and progressions; if not, why not;
if so, what are the relevant details;
(4)Â Whether he will advise the SABC Board to take immediate steps to
institute criminal charges against all those persons, including former
board members, who were identified for having transgressed the law with
irregular appointments; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant

REPLY:
(1), (2), (3) & (4) These questions overlap with those asked in question
number 198 and the Honourable Member is referred to the answers to that
question. If there is a legal case for the actions the Member proposes, of
course, the necessary actions must be taken.
